Our Approach

When working with clients, I create a safe, welcoming and non-judgemental space that encourages self-reflection and discovery. My sessions are conversational style and my non-judgmental, personable, and easy-going nature helps to create a comfortable space with sessions that feel relaxed.
My role is to provide support, empathy and acceptance, while I apply different therapeutic approaches, knowledge and skills to best meet your needs. I will ask questions, work through activities with you and apply my therapeutic knowledge and skills to build a structured treatment plan that is aligned with your goals and sets you up for a successful therapeutic outcome.
My goal is to help clients utilize these skills and strategies in their own environment to effectively overcome challenges and maintain long lasting, positive change. I enjoy seeking feedback at the end of my sessions to ensure that we are consistently meeting your needs.
As we work together to process thoughts, feelings and behaviours, I hope clients leave the session feeling heard, accepted, hopeful, recharged and motivated to work towards goals.

Therapy is not a One Size Fits All
Therapy isn’t a one size fits all kinda thing. What works for one person, may not work for another! I recognize the importance of using a collaborative, multi-theoretical and individualistic approach to therapy. Check out some of the different approaches I use below!
Strengths-Based Therapy
This method recognizes the importance of discovering and incorporating the client’s strengths into the treatment plan to aid growth and foster long lasting, meaningful change. This deviates from a problem-focused approach, as clients feel empowered to take an active role to set the trajectory for therapy.
Narrative Therapy
This approach helps clients to identify the stories they develop and carry with them throughout their life. As we experience interactions with the world, we associate meanings with these events, which influence how we perceive ourselves and others. This approach helps clients to unpack these narratives and identify their values and skills associated with them to effectively confront current and future problems.
Trauma-Focused Therapy
We will create a safe space to explore how trauma has impacted mental, emotional and physical wellbeing to understand how this may inform current behavioural responses and functioning. This modality helps clients to learn the skills to process emotions and memories, while practicing healthy coping strategies to enhance wellbeing.
Client-Centred Therapy
The counsellor and client maintain an equal standing in the relationship. The therapist can provide the knowledge and resource, but does not offer advice or solutions. The client is ultimately the expert of their own life and in control of their progress. This allows clients to fulfill their potential by relying on their own strength to change, which creates long lasting, meaningful change.
Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT)
This approach helps clients to self-monitor to regulate emotions by practicing nonjudgmental acceptance and mindfulness to identify triggers, alter dysfunctional behaviours and create more balanced thoughts that foster healthy emotions.
Emotions-Focused Therapy (EFT)
This approach helps you to process, express and make sense of emotions. The can help clients overcome negative self beliefs to achieve a more balanced view of themselves.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
This holistic theoretical orientation helps clients to understand how thoughts influence feelings and behavioural patterns. Clients learn practical tools and coping skills to implement in their daily life to challenge and change cognitive distortions and problematic behavioural patterns to disrupt the cycle that is maintaining their issue.
Attachment-based Therapy
The client and counsellor explore how childhood experiences influence their ability to form meaningful relationships as adults. This approach helps clients to explore these functional or dysfunctional attachment patterns to foster healthier attachments.
Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)
This approach emphasizes acceptance to overcome negative thoughts, feelings or situations. This helps clients to strengthen present awareness and live in accordance with their values and goals while fostering self-compassion.
